IRV, or Ranked-Choice-Voting, is about the only thing that will renew my faith in electoral politics, sullied after November-December 2000, and completely destroyed after the California faux recall - not to mention the engineered 2004 elections. I would add proportional representation to the mix, but for that to be viable we must actually establish parties outside the corporate duopoly of the Republicrat Party --Pete
ACCU POLL INSTALLS IRV ABILITY
(Article here)
[ROB RICHIE, FAIR VOTE - Accu Poll has a very small share of the market, but seems to be making a very serious push in states around the country. It's a real breakthrough to have it touting the fact that its equipment is ready to run instant runoff voting elections.]
Accu Poll Inc. a developer of direct recording electronic voting
systems, today announced receipt of certification under the 2002 Federal Election Commission voting system standards. As a result, Accu Poll becomes the first vendor of an end-to-end voting system featuring a voter verified paper audit trail to be certified under the more stringent 2002 standards.
Version 2.5 includes new features such as Instant Runoff Voting,
electronic VVPAT audio review, early voting support, encrypted election results as well as additional enhanced security features.
[Note: we hold to the view that any paper ballot emanating from such a machine should be placed in an optical scan machine for a second computerized count. A "verified paper trail" is only useful when someone notices something wrong. In California, for example, simply adding two votes at every machine could produce a statewide difference in tally of 150,000 votes]
