Four Things From The '06 Midterms That Progressives Can Take To Heart

1. The GOP's race-baiting anti-immigrant ads did not save the day for the Republicans in the short-term, but will harm their efforts to build support with Latinos in the long-term.

2. Voter turnout was strong enough to overwhelm a flawed election system and Republican gerrymandering.

3. The election system is still flawed. Now we are in position to begin reforming it for real.

4. Dubya has a press conference after election day at 1 PM ET. There is no time for a breather. The next round starts now.

  1. The conservatives are only anti-"illegal"-immigrant in public discourse. They are almost always shown to be bigots of the first order in the final analysis, and most would gladly send them all back home if they could.

The election was flawed, and evidence is coming to light even as we correspond regarding this, but will be suppressed once again, since those who "won" won't push it. I will, because:

The democrats are just as much corporate whores as the republicans. They're only saving grace is their guilt over it, which occasionally leads them to side with those less fortunate than themselves and their own circle of thieves. Above reproach? Hardly, sir! When are you going to understand that my tendencies toward politics involve a complete and absolute tear-down of the current corporate/state (read: fascist) system to replace it with one more just to the citizens and extremely regulatory for the private sector, which will be greatly reduced under a participatory economy? I did not do much celebrating on Tuesday, as not many Greens, Socialists, Peace and Freedom Party, or Parecon members were able to climb over the myriad number of barriers set up to ensure their electoral marginalization.

As far as taxes go, they are how we provide services for the great majority of citizens who aren't fortunate enough to be born into wealth, who are victim to the ravages of corporate/state capitalism waged by those who are, who are disenfranchised by the legalized mechanisms of those who want to protect and increase their accumulated wealth in the face of abject poverty, which itself is caused by the very same concentrated wealth in a closed system. Yes, it is unjust that we should have to tax people who can well afford it to help those who can't, but those people who can become greedy and selfish in direct proportion their hoard. They are the unjust, not the poor. Remember, it is the meek who shall inherit the Earth. Yeah, right... And as far as the middle east goes:

Do you believe the scenario can be any more "fucked up"?! Perfectly typical of a conservative (really bad descriptive) to set up a situation by which he can blame the incoming "guard" for the mess that his representatives have created! If that fails, blame the most recent "liberal" administration, and get your media flunkies to harp on it ad nauseum, until the unquestioning, unthinking living room sheep take it as fact. How utterly disingenuous! Already saying the democrats are going to fuck up! It was fucked-up to invade in the first place! The argument that the war was handled incompetently is a canard. It was incompetent to wage a war of aggression against the civilian populations of Afghanistan or Iraq at jump street! 655,000 killed! Have we won, yet? How many more? Spare me, please!

The only just solution left to the compassionate is to leave immediately and pour reconstruction dollars into the nation until the damage we have wrought is repaired, and reparation dollars to the people until the grief of families torn apart by imperial aggression is close to assuaged. Then we'll work on war crimes tribunals, let me tell you, sir! Oh yes, we will! Uncle Rumsfeld is first. He already won't travel to Germany, because he'll be taken into custody at the airport. I long for the day when...
